The RHS Boys Cross Country team continued their stellar season by placing second at the McGregor Invitational Meet on Saturday. The girls’ squad only had three runners compete and weren’t able to place as a team. However, each individual runner placed in the top 50.

The meet featured Burnett, Georgetown Gateway, Waco Connally, Clifton, China Spring, Rockdale, Thrall and Waco Live Oak. The boys were required to run five kilometers while the girls ran two miles for their race.

For the boys’ team, Jesus Bocanegra placed fifth with a time of 17:16. Cristo Hernandez finished in 10th at 18:02. Yovanney Delgadillo finished in 11th at 18:08. Chris Perez finished 16th at 18:37. Jose Tenorio placed 19th at 18:44. Albert Silva finished 39th at 19:38, while Diego Garza was 52nd at 25:19.

With their great performance on Saturday, the boys now have four runners ranked in the top 10 in the district. Jesus Bocanegra is ranked first as a freshman. Hernandez is ranked fifth. Delgadillo ranks sixth, while Perez ranks 10th.

For the girls’ team, Jesenia Navarro finished in 28th place with a time of 14:52. Alize Llanas was in 37th at 15:39 and Mariana Casarez finished in 46th place at 16:16.

“I couldn't be happier with how hard both the boys’ and girls’ teams are working as we gear up for district,” RHS Head Coach Cheryl Meuth said. “To see them hold their own in a tough division is very exciting.”

Bocanegra, Delgadillo, Hernandez, and Garza all recorded new personal records at McGregor.

The team is preparing to compete in the Lexington Meet on Saturday.
