The Rockdale boys golf team finished third in their second tournament at the Brenham Country Club of this season on Friday and Saturday.
The boys were led by Brady Nelson, who ended the weekend in eighth place, shot 84-81-165 and Ross Loth placed right behind him in ninth tying Nelson the first day with an 84 but shooting an 83 the next day for a total of 167.
Sophomore Brayden Burns shot a 92-82-174 and senior Doss Hasselbach finished with a 91-95-186. Jake Hasselbach rounded out the teams third place finish with a 103-94-197.
“I thought we played really well,” said Ethan Noel, Rockdale High School head golf coach. “It was a good change of pace as well.
“We haven’t played many two day tournaments this season and that definitely takes a lot more endurance just because that’s another day of walking eighteen holes.”
LADY TIGERS—Whitley Boyd, Payton Miller and Gracey Burns competed at the Brenham tourney with Boyd leading the three with a score of 96-85-181, Miller with a 99-93-192 and Burns with a 97-98-195.
The team was without Cassidy Smith and Eve King, who had prior engagements that kept them from competing.
This was the final tournament for both teams before the upcoming district tournaments in April.
“I told them that this is it,” Noel said. “We have a week of work to get in before district starts and we need to be ready if we want to make it far this year.”
The first round of the district tournament for both teams begins on Monday, April 1, at the Texas A&M Campus Course in College Station and the second round will be played on Monday, April 8, at the Wildflower Country Club in Temple.
