Ln their first official meet of the 2019 season, both Rockdale cross country teams came home from Lexington’s Small School Showdown with awards.

RHS sophomore Ivanna Ouna finished second in the girls race and a boys team made up of Isaac Fuentes, Seth Davis, Albert Silva, Chris Perez, Cristo Hernandez and Yovaney Delgadillo place second behind Class 4A Giddings.

“ I was excited to see growth from individual runners,” said Cheryl Meuth, Rockdale ISD cross country coach. “ I was especially impressed with our varsity boys and how high they placed.

ËOur top five eo|s placed in the top 20 and even our sixth placed 23rd. Our two j unior varsity boys also medaled with similar times to our varsity runners. They are a different team this year and itÎs definitel eecause of how hard they’ve worked.

Fuentes led the Tigers in sixth running a 19:11.79. Davis was right behind him in seventh with a 19:26.78. Silva ran a 20:03.13 placing in 12th with Perez cross-in the finish line rijht after him in 13th with a time of 20:06.84. Cristo Hernandez placed 17th with a 20:19.41 and Yovaney Delgadillo placed 23rd with a 20:37.25.

Luna led the Lady Tigers finishing second only to Schulenburg’s Taylor Limbaugh with a 13:32.68. Luna beat Cameron freshmen Logan Pevehouse.

Luna’s classmate Cady Barcak finished next for the Lady Tigers running a 14:55.17 for 14th place. Jesenia Qavarro finished in 4;th with a 15:14.55 and Avery Hendrix finished 29th in 15:52.77. Tatiana Olivares placed 34th with a time of 16:11.37 and Alize Llanas placed 44th with a 17:13.16.

The Lady Tigers placed fourth as a team behind Giddings, Thrall and rival Cameron.

McG REG O R— Both Rockdale teams are scheduled to run at the McGregor Invitational on Saturday.

“ McGregor has invited schools 1A through 6A,” Meuth said. “ But I’m excited to push them against that type of competition and see how we rise to the challenge.”

Tiger runner A.J. Hicks won the unior varsit race ith a time of 20=7 and Alec Vilva finished in si{th zith a time of 22:19.

Eighth grader Jesus Bocanegra won the j unior high eo|s division of Oe{injtonÎs Small School Showdown with a time of 11:56. Teammate Mose Wenorio finished right behind him in second with a time of 12:38.

Izabella Delgadilo placed fifth zith a 45=2 and Ciara Piles finished 40 seconds later in eighth place.

Like the high schools, RJH will also run at McGregor this Saturday.

THO RNDA LE— The varsit eo|Îs race in Oe{injton was won by THS senior Mason Drumm with a time of 4:=59.<4. Drumm finished more than 0 seconds ahead of Giddings’s Kayden Blood-worth in second place.

MILA NO — Andy Gutierre finished 44th out of 5 runners in Lexington. Gutierrez ran a time of 19:51.96.

Three Lady Eagles ran at the meet as ell= 0. Mollie Ybarra, 16:37.51; 52. Abby Olson, 18:38.83; 53. Bethanie Compton, 18:39.92.

PK doesnÎt have a meet scheduled this week but will run next on Saturday, Sept. 21, in Caldwell.
