In a competitive District 26-4A, the RHS soccer team notched a 5-1 victory over Highway 79 competitors Hearne on Valentine’s Day.

The Tigers played New Tech in Manor at press time, Tuesday. Game information will be in next week’s issue.

“Any team we face at this point is a tough competition. We are a very young program with lots of kids trying soccer for the first time so it’s quite difficult at times,” said Gilberto Rodriguez.

After losing their top scorer Chris Olvera to a shoulder injury, the Tigers are changing the way they play and trying to find an effective striker, according to Rodriguez.

Rodriguez seemed to find the right formula in last Friday’s game. F e r - nando Gonzales led the Tigers on the pitch with two goals and Hagen Land, German Mata and Brandon Hernandez had one each.

“I think we are in a very competitive district, playing 4A teams,” he said. “The kids have been doing well, but it’s always good to have Chris at top.”

They are 3-2 in district and will take on the Austin Achieve at Tiger Stadium at 7 p.m. Friday.
