As district play continues, this week’s matchup between the Rockdale Tigers and the 2-3 Caldwell Hornets will be pivotal. With six of the seven teams in the 11-3A district having one district loss, a win for both teams would put them in great position in the standings.
“Caldwell is extremely well coached.” RHS Head Coach Jacob Campsey said. “Their offense will pose a challenge for us with their misdirection plays and the different formations they use. Those type of offenses have been our Achilles heel, so we have to be prepared defensively to stop what we’ve struggled against all year.”

The Tiger offense has been solid all season averaging 38 points per game. The Tiger running game could not be stopped last week as they garnered 231 rushing yards against Cameron.
After struggling in previous weeks, the Tiger defense was able to turn things around against Cameron. They held the Yoemen to only 154 total yards. The defensive line created pressure in the backfield and the secondary forced turnovers to shut down the Yoemen offense.
Players to watch: Star running back Cam’ron Valdez had a field day against the Yoemen totaling 171 total yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver/defensive back Kesean Raven used his speed and athleticism to make plays all over the field. Raven recorded a rushing touchdown, receiving touchdown and a career high three interceptions against Cameron. The defense is anchored by linebacker Chase Mayfield and defensive lineman Ty Mayberry. They rank first and second in tackles for the Tigers this season.
CALDWELL—The Hornets are coming off of a bye week and look to turn their season around against Rockdale. They are on a three-game losing streak with their last matchup ending in a 54-27 loss to the Cameron Yoemen.
The Hornet offense has had an up-and-down year as they average 17 points per game. The defense has struggled all season allowing 34 points per game.
Players to watch: Quarterback Ryan Roehling had a solid performance against the Yoemen throwing for 218 yards. wide receiver De’Autre Burns is the top offensive weapon for the Hornets. He had a monster day against the Yoemen with five catches for 133 yards.
