Rockdale varsity track teams might have placed fifth and sixth overall at the 64th Rockdale Relays, but endured tough competition at Tiger Stadium Friday.

Among the 11 high schools that sent varsity teams to Rockdale, only two were smaller than RHS. The teams that came included Class 5A schools Georgetown East View, Bryan Rudder, Elgin and Lockhart, along with Class 4A schools Jarrell, Georgetown Gateway and Taylor.

For the varsity boys, eight Tigers ended the day with top three finishes. Sophomore Wyatt Windham won gold in the high jump and Yovanney Delgadillo won a bronze medal in the 3200-meter run while also breaking his personal record in the mile later that evening with a time of 4:55.

A 4x200-meter relay team made up of Alec Silva, Tristan Galvan, Robert Owens and Erik Sheppard placed third, with a time of 1:35.52. The sprint relay team composed of Silva, Galvan, Kobe Mitchell and Jose Castillo also placed third, with a 45.32.

Junior Olympic champion Timothy Grice did not compete on Friday, but will compete this week in Taylor.

For the Lady Tigers, T’Niyah Miles and Julie Bartsch finished first and second in the shot put while sophomore Ciara Miles placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles and Taylor Delz placed fifth and sixth in the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter run.

THIS WEEK— O n Thursday, Rockdale track teams will head west to compete at the Cotton Boll Relays in Taylor.

Field events begin at 1:30 p.m. and the 3200-meter run is scheduled for 3 p.m. The rest of the running events will begin at 5 p.m.

THORNDALE—As the smallest school competing at the Rockdale Relays, the Bulldog and Lady Dog athletes placed among the top five finishers in eight different events.

For the ’Dawgs, 2021 state qualifier Branson McCoy finished third in the 100-meter run and fifth in the 200. His classmate Stryker Leschber placed fourth in the discus and took third in the shot put, only losing to competitors from Georgetown East View. Stiles Patin took fifth in the high jump and Jack Herzog placed fourth in pole vault.

For the Lady Dogs, Makayla Lafferty placed fourth in the discus and Landri Martinka finished sixth in the 100-meter dash. Martinka also teamed up with Natalie Garcia, Emily Northcott and Saryn Peel to finish second in the 4x200-meter relay.
