Going into this upcoming Friday, the Rockdale Tigers sit at 2-1 in District 11-3A-I and also have a shot at a district championship.

However, the Tigers are now tasked with going into Bell County to take on Academy, a playoff hopeful that has been hot with a 49-0 shutout over Caldwell last week and a 32-28 victory over then undefeated Cameron the week before.

Tiger fans might be uneasy hearing those scores as Rockdale beat Caldwell 34-30 the Friday before this week’s bye and fell to Cameron 60-23 in the Battle of the Bell. But their one other shared opponent McGregor, Academy barely got past the Bulldogs with a 21-13 win while the Blue-and-Gold blasted MHS 48-14.

Coach Jacob Campsey told KRXT that his team is fortunate enough to control where they end up and don’t have to rely on outcomes of other games to get where they want to be.

“When you look at the standings right now, there are three teams that really can control their own destiny without needing anyone’s help,” Campsey said. “And that’s us, Cameron and Lorena still.”

“We’re right where we want to be. To be halfway through (district) and to not need any help to get where we want to be is obviously a great feeling,” he said.

Kickoff at Glover Stadium is at 7:30 p.m.

VOLLEYBALL—RHS volleyball faces Academy prior to the football game with a match at 4:30 p.m.

The Lady Tigers are currently 5-4 in district play tied for third with Rogers, who they played after press time Tuesday evening.
