The RHS Boys Cross Country team is on fire after winning their second meet in a row at the Cameron Invitational Meet on Saturday. The girls’ team placed fifth and had three runners finish in the top 25 spots.
The meet featured Caldwell, Milano, Lexington, Chilton, Normangee, Rockdale and St. Dominic Savio. The boys were required to run five kilometers while the girls ran two miles for their race.
For the boys’ team, Jesus Bocanegra finished in second place with a time of 17:48. Cristo Hernandez finished in third at 18:07. Yovanney Delgadillo finished fourth at 18:18. Chris Perez finished in fifth at 18:20. Jose Tenorio finished in 12th at 18:50 and Diego Garza finished in 32nd at 25:18.
For the girls’ team, Jesenia Navarro finished in 14th place with a time of 15.22. Taytum Young finished in 17th at 15:36. Alize Llanas finished in 21st at 16:10. Mariana Casarez finished in 28th place at 17:13. Tatiana Oliveres finished in 35th at 18:35 and Katia Hernandez finished in 37th at 19:37.
RHS Head Coach Cheryl Meuth praised her team for their efforts and explained how proud of the team she was.
“I’m so proud of both teams and the work they are putting in daily,” Meuth said. “Once again they finished as a pack not allowing any runners between our 2nd-5th place finishers. All of the boys that ran today are freshman and sophomores, and they are definitely holding their own at their first big meet of the season.”
“The girls fought hard and dropped several times from their last meet,” she said.
The team will seek to maintain their momentum as they compete in the Caldwell Invitational Meet on Saturday.
