Rockdale’s Lady Tiger volleyball team overcame early setbacks in Friday’s match with Rogers to get their second district win 25-22, 25-19, 22-25, 25-21.

During the first set, both teams went back and forth with the Lady Tigers prevailing.

After trailing in the second set, Rockdale fought back to take a 22-18 lead when Haven Jimenez fell and injured herself.

Not returning to the game, RHS was forced to regroup and play without the four-year starter and took the set 25-19.

Although they lost the third set, the Lady Tigers adapted with starters Yolianna Castillo, Julie Bartsch, Brande Breithaupt and Emma Whitsel taking charge and reserves Elizabeth Perry, Hailey Webb and Saige Robertson rising to the occasion and taking the match in the fourth set.

“I am very proud of the way the girls kept their heads up when things became tough,” RHS coach Kelsey Hudson said. “They had to play with confidence and positivity to win this match and they definitely stepped up to the plate.”

Their victories were a 3-2 win over Rogers and a 3-0 sweep over Caldwell this past Friday, a team Rockdale fell to 3-2 in their second district contest.
