Rockdale went into Thanksgiving break on a high note after 24-4 run in the second quarter led to a 73-39 victory over Milam County neighbor Milano last Tuesday in the old RHS Gymnasium.
“We won, but we didn’t execute,” siad Marcus McNeil, Rockdale High School head basketball coach. “There’s a difference between a championship mentality and just winning a game.
“And that’s not to put us down but we should be doing things we’ve learned better.”
Mekhi Crawford led Rockdale in scoring for the second straight game with a career high of 17 points. Classmate J.J Moreno had 12 and junior Jace Robinson finished the night with 11.
Both teams had a combined total of six seniors and rosters primarily made up of players two-to-three weeks removed from football,
THIS WEEK–The Tigers played at home against Schulenburg on Tuesday after press time.
They play in their first tournament starting this Thursday in Lexington.
First game is scheduled for 1:20 p.m., against Giddings in the Lexington High School gym.
MILANO–The Eagles were led by Ethan Gordon with nine points and Drew Demeritt, who had seven.
MHS played at Bryan-St. Joeseph on Tuesday after press time.
The Eagles play next in the North Zulch tournament Thursday through Saturday.
The junior varsity plays in the Normangee tourney Thursday and Saturday.
LADY TIGERS–Rock-dale’s girls’ basketball team didn’t play over Thanksgiving break.
They played 2018 Class 2A area finalist Normangee at home on Tuesday after press time.
This weekend, RHS travels up to McClennan County to play in the Moody Tournament.
The Lady Tigers begin play in District 19-3A when they cross the river take on the Cameron Lady Yoe.
LADY EAGLES–Like the Lady Tigers, MHS didn’t play during the break either.
They were scheduled to face Bruceville-Eddy on the road, but didn’t play due to both teams having multiple players out of town.
Milano faced Rosebud-Lott on Tuesday after press time and play next at the Thrall tourney Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Their first game is at 10:30 a.m., against Bremond and play later at 2:15 p.m., against Lago Vista.
MHS will head back to Thrall on Tuesday, Dec. 17, for their District 25-2A opener.
