The Rockdale Lady Tiger softball team fell to Troy 9-7 on Wednesday afternoon after a small comeback in their final at-bat where they scored three runs.

“I’m really proud of our team’s grit and determination,” Coarch Erin Palmer said. “It’s not very often when we have to come back from that big of a deficit.

“So for us to score that many runs in the bottom of the seventh, that says a lot about the mentality of our players and how hard we’ve been working. We kept our foot on the gas and tried to win the game.”

In the first inning, Troy got off to an explosive start, hitting a home run on the first pitch of the game and scoring twice more before it was Rockdale’s turn to bat.

Macy Knesek homered on the first pitch to open the bottom part of the inning and RHS scored once more to make the game 3-2 going into the second inning.

Troy built a modest lead, scoring two in the second and three in the fourth, going up 8-2.

“We need to tighten up on defense,” Palmer said. “There were one or two key errors that should’ve been the end of an inning.

“But they scored more runs to make it a completely different ballgame.”

RHS battled back in the six and the seventh, boosted by a Mariana Casarez home run in the six which scored two runs and a three-run rally in the final inning led by a Haven Jimenez homer.

The Lady Tigers ended the game losing 9-7. Karley Leopold pitched seven innings and struckout three.

Hannah Rodriguez, Casarez, Leopold, Jimenez, Autumn Montelongo and Knesek each had two hits and Ryleigh Eanes, Payton Miller and Andrea Salazar all had one hit.

This was the first time Rockdale has faced Troy since losing 6-0 in the bi-district playoffs last season.

“They were missing a few pieces from last year’s team,” Palmer said. “But it’s not like they’re worse.

“They’re just different from what they were. We’ll have to stay selective at the plate next time we face them because they are definitely beatable. They’re not the threat that they were last year.”

ROCKDALE—The Lady Tigers lost to Rogers 2-0 on Tuesday night, falling to 2-4 in District 19-3A.

Eanes led Rockdale with two hits.

On the mound, Leopold threw another strikeouts and allowed seven hits.

The Lady Tigers were without catcher Payton Miller, whose been dealing with a quad strain and Emily Depine, who is out for the season.

Rockdale plays their next game on Friday in Franklin. The Lady Lions are 0-4 in district play as of press time and have been 10 run-ruled in all four of their district games.

“Franklin’s been really good in the past,” Palmer said. “Last year when we played them they weren’t as good as they’ve been and we still split with them.

“In this district we’re not going to be able to take them lightly.”

First pitch will be thrown at 5 p.m. due to Franklin not having a junior varsity.
