Rockdale’s 4-3 record was good enough to finish second in the consolation bracket at their first tournament of the season this past weekend in Franklin.

“I was pleased with the way we finished both days of the tournament,” Hudson said. “I liked the fight we had and I feel like we never gave up in any match.

“But we need to work on being more consistent and learning how to play together.”

RHS started off the tournament with a comeback win over Wallis-Brazos 19-25, 25-18, 25-22. They were led by Andrea Salazar and freshman Julie Bartsch, who each had nine and eight kills. Fellow freshmen Yoli Castillo was also instrumental for the Lady Tigers with 30 assists and senior Payton Miller had 19 digs.

Following their battle with Brazos, they shut out Live Oak Classical 25-21, 25-20. Haven Jimenez led Rockdale at the net with seven kills and Salazar and Emily Depine each had six. Castillo led the team in assists with 19 and Miller led the team in digs with 10.

In their final game on Thursday, the Lady Tigers lost to Anderson-Shiro 27-25, 6-25, 20-25. Jimenez led with nine kills and Castillo had 18 assists. Depine and Miller led Rockdale with digs having 11 and 10.

On Saturday, the blue-and-gold faced District 19-3A opponent and tournament host Franklin. The Lady Lions ran away with the victory winning 25-12, 25-18. Bartsch led with five kills, Castillo had nine assists and Miller had nine digs.

Rockdale got their third loss of the tournament when they fell to neighbor Thrall in a close 22-25, 24-26 match later that day. Bartsch had eight kills and Castillo had 12 assists. Miller and Depine each had six digs.

The Lady Tigers took the consolation crown with a win over earlier opponent Wallis-Brazos 25-23, 16-25, 25-10. Jimenez and Depine both led at the net with eight kills apiece and Castillo assisted 21 points. Miller had 19 digs and Depine had 15.

TUESDAY—The Lady Tigers defeated Milano 25-18, 25-19, 25-23 in their season opener on Tuesday, Aug. 6, at the RHS gymnasium.

Depine led Rockdale at the net with 13 kills and Castillo had her current season-high of 36 assists in Tuesday night’s game. Miller led the Lady Tigers in digs with 16. Emma Whitsel and Averie Hobbs also contributed with 12 and 10 digs.

TOURNAMENT—RHS played host to Thrall on Tuesday night after press time.

The Lady Tigers play in the Cedar Creek Tournament on Thursday and Saturday. The tourney is expected to have a lot of 5A and 6A competition.

MILANO—The Milano Lady Eagles went 2-3 at the Cameron Lady Yoe tournament this past Thursday and Saturday.

On Thursday, they lost to tournament host Cameron 19-25, 18-25 and lost to District 25-2A opponent Mumford 8-25, 25-17, 22-25. They defeated La Vega 25-15, 21-25, 25-20. Sophomore Sterling Robertson had 15 kills and 8.5 blocks and their Abby Miller had 12 kills in their win over LV. Danni Shaw was also instrumental with 12 assists.

On Friday, they stayed at home and faced Rosebud-Lott and lost to the Lady Cougars 26-24, 14-25, 15-25, 19-25. Miller led the squad with 13 kills and Robertson had nine.

They concluded the Cameron tourney on Saturday losing again to Mumford 16-25, 16-25, 25-19, 19-25. MHS avenged their Thursday loss to the Lady Yoe with a 25-22, 25-18, 25-16 win. Against their neighbors from the north, Robertson had 11 kills and 10 blocks. Shaw had 14 assists.

Earlier in the week, they traveled to Rockdale for their first game of the season losing 19-25, 18-25, 23-25.

The Lady Eagles faced Brazos Christian School in Bryan after press time and play at Bosqueville on Friday.

THORNDALE-The Lady Bulldogs played at the Round Rock Westwoood tourney this past weekend.

Of the scores reported, they beat Bastrop 25-21, 25-13 and lost to Belton 21-25, 13-25.

They faced Troy, Texas Girls Coaches Association’s top-ranked team in Class 3A, on Tuesday after the release of this week’s Rockdale Reporter.

On Friday, they will travel to Lago Vista, TGCA’s 14th ranked team in Class 3A, for a match.
