The Tigers celebrated their homecoming and extended their win streak to three after dismantling the Academy Bumblebees 44-13. They are now 5-3 overall and 3-1 in district play.

“I thought we played with extremely great effort in all phases of the game,” RHS Head Coach Jacob Campsey said. “Our execution on both sides of the ball was really good for the most part.”

The Tigers got on the scoreboard first with Kobe Mitchell connecting with Hagan Land for a fouryard touchdown.

The Bees responded when Darion Franklin scored a touchdown on a five-yard run.

Later in the quarter, Cam’ron Valdez scored on a four-yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was blocked making the score 13-7 at the end of the quarter.

In the second quarter, Kesean Raven would snag a 22-yard touchdown pass from Mitchell. A few drives later, Mitchell used his speed to score on an 18-yard touchdown run. The PAT was blocked. The Tigers led the contest 26-7 at the half.

In the third quarter, the Tiger defense would make its presence felt with Anthony Dansby returning an interception for a touchdown.

Academy responded as quarterback Jerry Cephus dialed-up a 25-yard touchdown pass to Trenton Flanagan. The Tigers were able to block the extra point.

Later in the quarter, Valdez showed why he’s an elite talent as he ripped the Bee’s defense on a 32-yard touchdown run. The Tigers failed on the two-point conversion attempt. Raven would score the last touchdown of the day racing down the field on a 54-yard screen pass from Mitchell. The extra-point attempt was blocked making the score 44-13.

Defense prevailed in the fourth quarter as neither team scored any points.

The Tiger offense put on another stellar performance. They have now scored at least 40 points in their last four games. Mitchell went 9 of 14 for 121 passing yards, 65 rushing yards and three total touchdowns. Running back Valdez had 19 carries for 150 yards and two touchdowns, while Raven snagged two catches for 75 yards and two touchdowns.

For the defense, linebacker/safety Davioun Scott had an outstanding performance recording 14 tackles, five tackles for loss, two sacks and one interception. Scott’s play earned him a nomination for the All-Brazos Valley Player of the Week Award. Christian Briggs, Raven, Cedric Mitchell and Chase Mayfield all recorded nine tackles on the evening. Dansby led the team in interceptions with two.

Despite the team being on a win streak, Coach Campsey explained how the team is still motivated and will continue to give great effort on each and every play.

“In this district, every week is a battle. The guys know that there are no cake walks. Make no mistake about it, these kids are hungry. After two years of being a No. 3 and No.4 seed, they want that district championship.”

With the win, the Tigers still control their own destiny with a chance to win the district outright. The Tigers have a tough battle in front of them as they will face the 5-3 Troy Trojans on Friday at Troy.
