On Thursday, the Rock-dale Lady Tigers went undefeated in the Cameron Lady Yoe Tournament, beating Austin Achieve Academy 59-13 and Milano 46-32.

“We got in and got out with two victories today,” said Meredith Caffey, Rock-dale High School head basketball coach. “That was great for us.”

Due to the Rockdale High School’s football bi-district playoff game being on Saturday, the Lady Tigers didn’t return to Cameron for the second day of the tournament.

Against Milano, the Highway 79 neighbors ended the first quarter tied 9-9. A 15-3 run in the second quarter was enough for Rockdale to hold their lead for the rest game. The Lady Tigers got their third victory of the season, winning 46-32. Game leaders were Anna Harmon, who had 18 points and eight rebounds, and Andrea Salazar, who had her first double-double of the season 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Earlier in the day against Austin Achieve, Rockdale got off to a quick start, leading 19-4 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Tigers built their lead, going into halftime up 34-5. RHS outscored the Lady Polars in the second half 25-8, defeating them 59-13.

Two days before the Cameron Tournament, the Lady Tigers lost on the road to St. Dominic Savio (Austin) 43-38.

In their first loss of the season, Rockdale went into half time down 18-17, but were outscored in the third quarter 14-7, going into the final quarter down 32-24. The Lady Tigers put 14 on the scoreboard in the final quarter, but Savio stayed with them scoring 11 and winning 43-38.

The Milam County hoopsters were led by Anna Harmon, who had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Andrea Salazar also had 12 points, and helped Rockdale at the rim with six rebounds. Sophomore Miah Beckwith was also an addition to the Lady Tigers, with seven points, three assists, and three rebounds.

On Tuesday, Nov. 6, Caffey won her first game as head basketball coach of the Lady Tigers, 48-39.

Going into the final quarter tied, Rockdale outscored the home team by nine. On the road, they beat the Giddings Lady Buffaloes 48-39. Cassidy Smith led the squad with 15 points. Salazar had a double-double with 10 points, and 12 rebounds. Harmon had eight points and seven rebounds, and point guard Payton Miller led the team in assists with six.

“It’s always nice to start out on a good note,” Caffey said. “But the girls are still new to the system I’ve brought in, so we’ll continue to work on things.”

The Lady Tigers play their next game Monday after press time against the Lady Bulldogs in Thorndale. THS is 0-2. They have played without a majority of their team, who were in the volleyball state playoffs.

Tipoff is after the junior varsity game, which begins at 5 p.m.

Junior Varsity—On Tuesday, the Lady Tigers lost to St. Dominic Savio 34-20. Rockdale was led by Perla Perez and Arbranae Sessoms, who had eight and six points. Destiny Clarke had a “great defensive game” according to coach Brian Thomas, with five steals and seven rebounds.

On Tuesday Nov. 6, the junior varsity lost to Giddings 43-14. The Lady Tigers were lead by Liliana Lara with five points, and Alyssay Grady, with four.

The Lady Tigers play their next game against Thorndale on Monday, Nov. 19. Tipoff is at 5 p.m.
