After shooting an 86 on Monday and a 74 on Tuesday at the UIL Class 3A state golf championships in Austin, Ross Loth improved his score to a 160, placing 19th of the 72 golfers.

“I felt like I did great. I was very excited to have the opportunity to play at the state tournament and I’m glad I was able to do as well as I did,” Loth said.

This was the junior’s third trip to state. His first was as a freshman in 2017, shooting a 89-85-169 and in 2018 when he shot a 90-84-174 to help the Tiger team to a sixth place fi nish.

“Ross has really worked hard to get better at golf. Especially as an upperclassmen, he’s taken a leadership role and really helped lead this team,” said Ethan Noel, Rockdale golf coach. “He deserved to make it to state and he proved it by playing really well at the end of the tournament.

“His chipping was on and he putted it well. He shot one under on his last nine holes which tremendous on that course. Ross had a terrific junior year and I think this really can give him the confidence he needs to have a great senior year.”

Austyn Reily of Pottsboro won the state meet with a score of 74-70-144 and Columbus won the Class 3A team crown with a 313-314-627.

Rival Cameron finished 10th out of 12 teams with a team total score of 363-334-697.
