Although Rockdale cross country teams didn’t have a scheduled meet this week, that didn’t keep them from competing.
On Saturday night, Tiger Stadium held the first annual “Midnight Mile Relay”, which RHS head coach Cheryl Meuth described as a “success” on social media.
The race, which started at 11:50 p.m. Saturday night, allowed RHS distance runners to pair up with either a community member, parent or teacher to run the first lap of the mile with the RHS student running the remaining three laps.
For the boys, the gold medalists were a team of Chris Perez and 2019 RHS grad Gavin Young. Finishing second was Cristo Hernandez with his dad, Jaime Hernandez. In third was Yovanney Delgadillo with his dad, Juan Delgadillo.
Ciara Miles and coach Dejhoria Robertson took home gold while Aliana Ramos and Logan Meuth came in second. Taking home bronze was Alize Llanas and her dad, Domingo.
THIS WEEK—Rockdale runners are back in action this Saturday in McGregor.
District competition is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 13, in Cameron.
