While in their own high school gymnasium, RHS powerlifters Elizabeth Perry, Ashley Gonzales- Reyes, Jill Eubank and Daniel Gardiner each broke school records at the Rockdale Invitational on Saturday.

For the girls, Eubank won gold while breaking her own record in the bench press with a lift of 85 pounds. Caressa San Miguel and Perry placed second in their respective weight classes with Perry shattering tering the school’s bench press record t hat s he s et a w eek earlier in Belton with a lift of 170 pounds. The RHS sophomore also broke Class of 2021 grad Jena Locklin’s dead lift record of 305 pounds and her meet total of 795 pounds that was set during Locklin’s senior year. Third place finishers for the Lady Tigers were Shellsea Musto, Shelly Segovia and Gonzales-Reyes, who set a school record in the squat, bench press, dead lift and meet total. Due to her being the first lifter to compete in her weight class, her lifts were all deemed school records.

Other top performers for the Lady Tigers were Tatiana Olivares, who placed fourth in her division, along with Melody Duran and Lizzie Zinn, who both placed fifth in their weight classes. As a team, the Lady Tigers placed third of the 13 schools.

For the Tigers, three lifters won their divisions including Miles Grear, Kevin Liu and Daniel Gardiner. Gardiner’s lift of 550 and meet total of 1,420 pounds took down records that had been held by Decius Tasby since 1998.

Other top performers for the boys were Clay Fountain and Tristan Rupe, who both finished second in their divisions and Austin Caldwell and Ryan Luckey, who both placed fourth. Ayden Pena also rounded out the top five in his respective weight class. The Tigers were runners up as a team.
