It all comes down to Friday night as the district championship will be decided in a battle between the Rockdale Tigers and Lorena Leopards. Both teams enter the game with 4-1 records in district play and stand in one another’s way to earning a No. 1 seed in the playoffs. The Tigers will be looking to earn their first district championship in four years.

“Lorena is very sound on both sides of the ball,” RHS Head Coach Jacob Campsey said. “Their coaches are never going to put their kids in a bad position. They run a unique defense and offensively they run the option a lot which will be a new test for us. It should be an exciting matchup overall.”

ROCKDALE— R H S arrives feeling confident as they will enter the contest on a four-game win streak. The Tigers had a great showing in their last contest as they defeated the Troy Trojans 46-38.

The Tiger offense had one of their best performances of the season acquiring 520 yards of total offense. They showed outstanding efficiency by averaging a whopping 11 yards per play. The Tigers have scored 42 points or more in their last four games.

The Tiger defense played great through the first three quarters against Troy holding the Trojans to only 14 points. Allowing an average of just 21 points, the Tigers have been solid their last four games.

Players to watch: Star running back and Texas Tech commit Cam’ron Valdez had his second-best performance of the season against Troy rushing for 221 yards on 16 carries with two touchdowns. Sam Houston State commit Kesean Raven continued to live up to his nickname “The Glitch” by doing it all for the Tigers. Raven earned 95 rushing yards, 10 receiving yards and three total touchdowns against Troy.

On Defense, lineman Ty Mayberry has been a disruptive force for the Tigers all season long. He had 12 tackles against Troy.

LORENA—The Leop ards are coming into Friday’s game with great momentum as they are riding a threegame win streak. The Leopards showed great dominance last week as they defeated the Caldwell Hornets 48-14.

The Leopards possess a high-powered offense of their own as they average 36 points per game. Their 48 points scored against Caldwell was their second highest point total of the season.

The Leopard defense has been stable allowing only 26 points per game. However, the Leopards have only ceded 16 points per game in their last three contests.

Players to watch: Senior quarterback Ben Smedshammer can get the job done with his arms and legs. Against Caldwell, he tallied 262 total yards with five passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown.

On defense, senior Callan Weaver had a great outing against Caldwell totaling 16 tackles and two tackles for loss. Junior defensive back Cade Walker was a ballhawk for the Leopards as he snagged three interceptions against Caldwell.
