Lady Tiger volleyball went 4-1 this weekend at their own tournament where they were host to 12 different schools ranging from Mumford to Austin’s Travis High School.

On Thursday, the Blueand Gold began the tourney beating Georgetown’s Gateway College Prep before falling to a scrappy Brentwood Christian team 21-25, 25-23, 13-15.

However, RHS redeemed their loss with a two-set win over Holland 25-14, 25-12 to close the first day of tournament play.

On Friday, Rockdale took down Gateway again with a 25-15, 25-22, 25-20 and on Saturday, they ended the tournament with a victory over Granger 25-13, 25-14.

TUESDAY—Two days before hosting their own tournament, the Lady Tigers traveled westward to Thorndale where they beat the Lady Dogs in three straight sets 25-22, 25-21, 25-15.

THIS WEEK—The Blue-and-Gold faced Bremond, the Texas Girls Coaches Association’s fifth - ranked team in Class 2A, after press time and face Taylor on the road at 4:30 prior to the Tiger football game.

According to TGCA, the Lady Tiger volleyball is among the top 37 teams in Class 3A after their last poll announced their top 20 teams and 17 additional honorable mentions, of which Rockdale was one.

MILANO—The Lady Eagles also played in Rockdale this weekend starting off against Class 6A Killeen Shoemaker in three-set battle that the Lady Wolves won 25-18, 22-25, 15-5.

MHS went on to lose to Granger 19-25, 20-25 and Class 4A Taylor 13-25, 17-25. They also lost to district foe Thorndale 19-25, 21-25.

TUESDAY—Earlier in the week, the Lady Eagles went head-to-head with Class 2A’s third-ranked team Bosqueville in a match that was decided in the fifth set with MHS falling on their home court. This came three days after the two teams played in the Rosebud-Lott tournament where BHS won in two sets to take tourney gold.

THIS WEEK—T h e Maroon-and-Gold didn’t have a game scheduled Tuesday and, as of press time, aren’t scheduled to play again until Tuesday, Sept. 7, when they open district play in Thrall.

THORNDALE—Lady Dog volleyball went 4-2 at the Rockdale Tournament with a 25-12, 25-7 win over Austin’s Travis High School before beating Mumford in a tie-breaker 21-25,25-21, 15-9 and taking down Taylor 25-18, 25-23.

They got their first tourney loss to host Rockdale when they Lady Tigers defeated them 25-16, 25-17. THS bounced back with a 25-19, 25-21 victory over neighbor Milano before losing to Mumford in their second tie-breaker with the Lady Mustangs 21-25, 25-13, 13-15.

THIS WEEK—T h e Lady Dogs played Academy on Tuesday evening and head to Lago Vista Friday for their final non-district contest.

Game time is scheduled for 4:30 with the varsity playing first.
