Milano, Thorndale lifters also compete
ABILENE—Rockdale powerlifters were finalists in Division 3 of the state powerlifting meet Saturday in Abilene.
Br yce Flowers set a new Rockdale High School record with a squat of 655 pounds, which also tied the state record for the 181 lb. weight class. His bench press came in at 370, also a new school record, and his dead lift at 495 bested the school record he set at regionals just two weeks ago.
His total of 1,520 pounds earned him sixth place overall.
Kevin Liu also improved on his overall lift total from his third-place finish in regionals.
Liu competed in the 148 lb. class and finished with a total of 1,270 pounds—a new Tigers record. The senior’s squat of 495 and dead lift of 485 are also new Rockdale records.
His record setting day was good enough for him to finish in eighth place in the state final.
MILANO— Milano’s Chris Vasquez was a finalist at the meet Saturday in Division 4.
Competing in the 198 lb. weight class, he had a squat of 520, a bench press of 375 and a dead lift of 450. His total of 1,345 pounds landed him in eighth place.
T H O R N D A L E — Thorndale’s Deven Cuba and Kaleb Yount were also finalists in the Division 4 state meet Saturday.
Cuba, competing in the 181 lb. weight class, had a squat of 440, a bench press of 295 and a dead lift of 470.
His total of 1,205 landed him in 12th place.
In the 275 lb. weight class, Young had a squat of 530, a bench press of 385 and a dead lift of 520.
He placed sixth with his total of 1,435.
