Rockdale High School boys’ and girls’ powerlifting teams have high hopes coming into for the 2020 power-lifting season.

Last season, RHS had two regional qualifiers and one state qualifier with all three are returning to the gym this season.

Nathan Jeter, the lone state qualifier, came to last year’s regional meet as the eighth-ranked lifter in the 114-pound weight class before upsetting the six lifters ahead of him and finishing second.

As a result, Jeter qualified for the state meet, where he placed 10th.

Jeovanny Navarro also returns for the Tigers after placing 10th at the Region II Division III meet last season in the 132-pound weight class.

For the Lady Tigers, Mackenzie Musto is back this season after making her second straight regional appearance in 2019.

The junior placed fifth at regionals in the 132-pound weight class last season.

Jesenia Navarro also qualified for the regional meet last season, but was disqualified at the weigh-in.

Rockdale’s first power-lifting meet is Saturday, Jan. 11, in Giddings.
