Rockdale High School’s cross country team had 23 runners show up to the schools first practice last Thursday morning.
Head Coach Cheryl Meuth said that her team is experimenting with a new training method for the 2019 season.
“We are actually jumping into a new program called PAAVO,” said Meuth, entering her third year as coach. “I discovered the program at a summer cross country camp I took some of our kids to.
“The gist of the program is that there are basically no days off and you are building strength with consecutive days of running. We’ll alternate between long runs with slow paces and shorter runs at tempo pace.”
Meuth said some of her kids have already starting the PAAVO training method.
“Half of our kids were on their fifth straight day this past Monday,” Meuth said. “They all want change so we have to be committed to putting in the work to make things happen.”
RHS will make their season debut on Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Mud, Sweat and Cheers Relay outside of Caldwell.
MILANO—The Milano Eagle and Lady Eagle cross country teams held their first practice this past Thursday. MHS begins their season on Saturday, Aug. 24 when they travel to Florence for their first meet.

THS also starts their season a week earlier with their season opening meet on Friday, Aug. 16, at the Temple Lions Park. Thorndale joins Rockdale at the Mud, Sweat and Cheers Relay the following week outside of Caldwell.
