Ithink it’s pretty cool that the Rockdale Athletic Director/Head Football Coach Hunter Hamrick and his wife Morgan had the athletic department staff a nd t heir families out to their house recently for a back to school party.
Building community is important in 2024 and I’m grateful that the Hamricks are setting the pace.
There is so much more than being a football coach or even being married to a football coach or being a child of a football coach. So we appreciate the first family of football and all they do as well as all of our Tiger and Lady Tiger coaches.
If you see a coach, tell them, “Thanks” and let them know you know how hard they work. These people care about our kids. —ka— On Monday all high school football players reported for football practice at 6 a.m.
I gotta tell you it was nice to drive by the football field and see all of those gold helmets. All of a sudden everything was right in the world. It seemed like the election was over and we were all happy and there was no war in Israel.
No joke, it was nice to see those Tigers on the field, things have changed since this guy was a Tiger. Artifi cial turf was for the professionals, coaches yelled a lot more and our equipment was a lot more used.
I’m sure we had water breaks but we drank out of a garden hose. Not only that but everybody played football.
I j ust g ot o ff t he p hone with Coach Hamrick and a lot of kids choose to just play soccer, basketball or baseball. Some of this is because of the success of some of those programs including Rockdale’s Cross Country program but come on man, this is Texas. Playing football should be almost mandatory like the military service.
Peer pressure just isn’t what it used to be.
Go Tigers! —ka— I loved seeing Cross Count r y Coach Cher yl Meuth’s Facebook post last week. The Tigers & Lady Tigers are out running the roads, training for the upcoming season so she is encouraging us to be watchful and to drive carefully so we can keep these athletes safe.
Those are your sports fun facts for the week!
