On Monday evening, Rockdale and Thorndale High School baseball teams started their 2021 season against each other in a scrimmage at THS.
Both teams had the majority of the rosters involved in the action including players still in the middle of their respective basketball seasons, like Bulldog Logan Davis and Tiger Mason Willard.
Rockdale returns to the diamond on Friday evening in their second scrimmage of the season with Rosebud-Lott at Tiger Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
The Bulldogs don’t have a scrimmage planned Friday as of press time but do play again at home on Monday against the Texans Homeschool team based out of Round Rock.
Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m.
MILANO—The MHS baseball team also plays the Texans in the near future, starting their season on Feb. 22, at home.
LADY TIGERS—Rockdale High School’s softball team made their first road trip of the season when they faced Thrall on Thursday.
In a scrimmage where head coach Meghann Infantino moved players around every inning to try players at different spots on the field, Thrall outscored RHS 13-3 in five and a half innings played.
The Lady Tigers had four hits with Hannah Rodriguez, Brande Breithaupt, Jessica Rodriguez and Haven Jimenez each having one.
Breithaupt and Jimenez both pitched for RHS with Breithaupt hurling for two innings and getting two strikeouts. Jimenez threw for the other three and struck out four batters.
Missing players due to illness, the Blue-and-Gold also played with only eight team members, having to borrow a Thrall player to stand in right field.
THIS WEEK—Rockdale played their third scrimmage of the season with long time rival Taylor at home on Tuesday evening after the release of this week’s Reporter.
The Lady Tigers are off Friday but return to action at their own tournament the following weekend from Feb. 18-20.
Lago Vista, Holland, Manor New Tech, Jarrell and Teague are among the teams scheduled to attend the Rockdale outing.
The tournament schedule will be posted in next week’s edition.
