RHS came out on top 38-28 over Austin’s St. Dominic Savio in their season opener on Friday in the old RHS Gymnasium.
Savio led at the end of the first 10-7 and the game was tied 17-17 at halftime.
The Lady Eagles took the lead 19-17 in the third quarter but RHS tied the game and took a 24-19 thanks to a Julie Bartsch put back and three-point play by Payton Miller.
RHS led 24-21 at the end of the quarter.
In the fourth, Rock-dale went on 10-2 run over the course of a four minutes due to two more free throws by Miller, an Andrea Salazar layup and three straight shots by newcomer D’erika Hurd.
RHS held on to win 38-28.
Salazar led the girls in scoring with 13 points and was the top rebounder with eight.
Miller was also a top scorer with seven. She was also a force on defense with six steals and rebounds.
They were without junior Anna Harmon, who led the blue-and-gold in scoring last season.
The Lady Tigers played Giddings at home after press time.
They play next on Tuesday, Nov. 19, against Burton.
Due to the Class 2A Lady Panthers still being in volleyball, a time for the game has yet to be determined.
