The Rockdale High School cross country team pulled out of the McGregor Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 22.
“We would have had to leave at 5 a.m., and there was a 100 percent chance of rain at the time,” said Cheryl Darby, head cross country coach said. “So pulled out of the meet.”
The McGregor meet went on as scheduled and the weather on Saturday was clear.
“It would have been nice to have been able to run against Academy, but we will see them in Cameron this weekend,” Darby said.
The Tigers will travel to Cameron Saturday to run in the Cameron Invitation at Cameron Junior High School.
“There will still be a lot of big schools there, but we will get a preview of where were are in district with Academy and Franklin running,” Darby said.
Saturday’s meet is a precursor to district, which will also be held in Cameron Oct. 8 at Cameron Junior High School.
“McGregor should take first and there’s going to be a fight for the next two spots,” Darby said about the district race. “We are trying to get that second or third spot in district.
“As long as my varsity girls show up and give me their best, we’ll do well,” she said.
Cameron will play host to the junior high school district meet as well on Oct. 6.
