The Rockdale Junior High Cross-Country team competed in the Night Light Relay at McGregor this past Saturday. The race consisted of teams of two, with each leg running a 1-mile loop before passing it to the second leg runner.
Only the top 10 relay teams received medals. Rockdale collected an abundance of awards. Other teams that participated in the meet included Rosebud-Lott, Crawford, Axtell, Valley Mills and McGregor.
Coach Cheryl Meuth praised the young runners for their great effort during the meet.
“All runners received new PRs (personal records),” Mueth said. “I am so proud of the competitive side that came out in each of them.”
For the girls’ team, Izabella Delgadillo and Lydia Boriack finished fourth with a time of 14:35.
For the boys’ team, Aaron and Jesse Montelongo finished in first place at 12:03. Daniel Castillo and Zeb Skrhak finished in second place at 12:28. Austin Caldwell and Zeke Castro finished in sixth place at 13:19. Alex Cooper and Jesus Limas finished in tenth place at 14:42.
The young runners hope to sustain their momentum at the Cameron Meet on Sept. 30.
