The RJH eighth grade A team fell to Robinson 42-0 Thursday, after a series of injuries.
“Three key injuries hampered their efforts on both sides of the ball, but the Tigers continued to play hard,” Eric Willard said junior high school football coach. “The Tigers rushing attack began moving the ball in the second half, but they couldn’t find the end zone.”
Defensive standouts were Cade Pantaleon, Joel Scott and Miguel Reyes. Offensive standouts were Scott Penny, Jose Aboytes, and Landon Pounders.
Seventh grade – The seventh grade A took the field for their first game of the year defeated Robinson 28-12.
“The defense came up big in the first quarter, thanks to the Tigers secondary made up of Wyatt Windham, Kemar Spencer, Gerren Marrero, and Blaydn Barcak halting their air attack,” Willard said.
Offensively Windham scored from 32 yards out to take a 6-0 lead. Mason Willard kicked an onside kick and Cruz San Migel recovered to start another drive. Barcak ran the ball down to the opponent’s one-yard line, then Windham scored on the next play and the two-point conversion.
Windham intercepted the ball in the third quarter, which was followed by a pass completed to Marrero from Barcak to lead a scoring drive finished by Barcak to increase the lead.
Windham rushed for a touchdown late in the third quarter and the Tigers kept the lead.
Defensive standouts were Tyler Prazak, Cruz SanMigel and Isaiah Sauls. Offensive standouts were Chad David, Dominique Clark and Noah Pastrano.
B teams – The combined seventh and eighth B teams took on Robinson Thursday night and came up on the short end losing 26-0.
“The score was very misleading, as the defense played hard and made some great plays,” Willard said. “The offense couldn’t find their rhythm and left the defense in a few tough spots. There was improvement from last week, and the coaches are looking to continue that next week against Bur-net.”
Defensive standouts were Cooper Huff and Ivan Bonner. Offensive standouts were Davin Shriver and Lane Rickman.
