Rockdale’s junior varsity was unable to make up for early McGregor scoring last Thursday evening at MHS, where they fell 12-6.
The Bulldogs scored a touchdown in both the first and second quarter, taking a 12-0 lead at halftime.
An interception returned by Devon Hicks for a 60-yard touchdown brought the Blue-and-Gold within six, but it wasn’t enough to leave McClennan County with a win.
According to coach Bart Gibbs, runningback Raydn Hamilton, quarterback Mason Willard and Hicks were the offensive standouts while Lane Bell, Cooper Huff, Lavar Beckwith, Mason Meschwitz and Gabriel Goodman were noted for their effort on defense.
THIS WEEK—The Tiger junior varsity, which features a roster in which all but eight of the players are freshmen, play Thursday in Rockdale.
Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
8A—The eighth grade “A” team fell 14-8 to McGregor.
Mason Lillard scored the team’s lone touchdown on a Brody Willard pass. Wilmer Sorto Ventura’s PAT afterwards counted for two points.
Cesar Rodriguez also caused and recovered a fumble.
Lillard and Willard were named offensive standouts by RJH coach Eric Willard and Landon Deason, Stephen Goodrich and Sorto Ventura were named defensive standouts.
7A—The RJH seventh grade squad took down McGregor 7-6.
Highlights of the game were a 54-yard TD run by Dominik Lopez and a Jaylen Vrana fumble recovery.
Lopez and Jace Hen derson were standouts on offense, Ivan Nunez and Lopez defensive standouts.
COMBINED—The combined seventh grade and eighth grade team defeated McGregor with two from Dylan Clark.
Standouts were Clark, Zayd Gwyn, Luke Oliveras, Criss Ruelas and Ayedan Pena.
