Last week’s cold weather did not help former Rockdale Tiger and current head baseball Coach Austin Caffey get his Big Blue Machine tuned up for the 2025 baseball season.
The tournament that Rosebud-Lott was to host last week got canceled because of the frozen temperatures, but the Tigers did pick up a game against a top 25 program—the Troy Trojans.
Troy won 12-2 but only because of a couple of bad innings by the Tigers.
According to assistant baseball Coach Ethan Brinkley, “We did not look that bad.”
Brinkley is right. Without the fourth and sixth innings, the Tigers would come up short by only one run, but it could have been a 3-2 ballgame.
Freshman Slayde Harris started on the bump for the Tigers and he threw three innings giving up six runs (four earned) on three hits. Harris had five Ks and walked four.
Coach Caffey has a lot of confidence in Harris, so keep your eye on this young man as he helps the Tigers win games.
Key players in this lopsided game were Cole Faust, Austin Caldwell, Brody Willard, Stephen Goodrich and Greyson Williams.
UP NEXT—
Coming up for the Tigers is a tournament hosted by Brazos Christian in Bryan starting Thursday. Games and times are to be announced.
The Rockdale Lady Tigers softball team was scheduled to play a game on Tuesday (after The Reporter deadline) at home against Granger. Rockdale will then play in the Taylor Tournament starting Thursday. Games and times will be announced.
