This past Thursday, Rockdale High School athletes had their second straight week of going against tough competition.

The week prior, RHS was the second smallest school at the 64th annual Rockdale Relays, going up against Class 5 A p r o g r a m s like Bryan-Rudder and Georgetown’s East View High School. At the Cotton Boll Relays in Taylor, they went up against more athletes from bigger grams such as Belton, Smithville and pro-Georgetown’s Gateway Prep. The Tigers ended the night finishing fourth out of 16 schools with five silver medals and two bronze. Freshman Timothy Grice placed second in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 41.68. Grice was beat by Taylor’s Jarvis Anderson, who placed fourth in the same event at the Class 6A state meet last year while he was still enrolled at McNeil High School in Round Rock.

Other top performers for Rockdale were the sprint relay team made up of Kobe Mitchell, Tristan Galvan, Alec Silva and Grice. The team finished second behind Class 4A Lake Belton with a time of 44.58. RHS junior Devon Hicks placed third in the pole vault with an 11-0. Yovanney Delgadillo also earned a bronze medal, placing third in the 3200-meter run.

LADY TIGERS—For the second straight week, T’Niyah Miles and Julie Bartsh were front runners in the shot put. Over in Rockdale, Miles won while Bartsch ended the event as runner up. Things were slightly different this week as Bartsch won in Taylor with a total distance of 35-9. Miles placed third overall with a throw of 33-11.75.

THIS WEEK—In the midst of Rockdale ISD’s spring break, Tiger and Lady Tiger track teams do not have a meet this week and will be back and running next at the Happy Skrabanek Relays in Caldwell on Thursday, March 24.
