The Rockdale varsity boys’ track team put on another strong performance in the District 19-AAA Championships last week at Tiger Stadium.
Overall, RHS has 11 athletes that qualified for the area meet in Fairfield this week—10 on the boys’ team and one on the girls’.
T’Niyah Miles won district in the shot put for the girls with an impressive distance of 35’10”.
On the boys’ team, De’Andre Stephens (high jump) and Devon Hicks (pole vault) took home first place hardware for their events.
Also advancing in field events were Erik Sheppard in the long jump and Chad David in shot put. Both young men finished in third place.
The strength of the team continues to be the relays. The Tigers finished in second place in the 4x200- and 4x400-meter events, and the 4x100 team crossed the tape in third place. The group of Tristan Galvez, Tim Grice, Robert Owens, Stephens, Aiden Hirt, and Jesse Montelongo continue to excel and advance.
Owens (100-meter dash) and Grice (200-meter dash) both finished in second place and Yovanney Delgadillo qualified for the area meet as well by taking third place in the 3200-meter run and fourth in the 1600-meter.
The competition will no doubt be tougher in Fairfield on Wednesday, but these Tigers look ready.
