The Lady Tiger soccer team fought until the final minute in their 10-0 loss to Giddings on Friday evening at Tiger Stadium.

“They kept fighting, even with the outrageous score, and it was a more even game in the second half,” said Gilberto Rodriguez, Rockdale High School head soccer coach. “The first half wasn’t good at all.”

“I honestly haven’t seen a team this season that could pass the ball so well,” he said. “So I knew we had to change things up in the second half.”

The Lady Buffaloes led 8-0 at the half. Rockdale held Giddings to two goals after the break making the final score 10-0.

“At halftime, I gave our girl’s a pep talk and we changed a lot of stuff,” Rodriguez said. “We made sure our passes were shorter, little things like that.

Earlier in the week, RHS lost to La Grange 8-1. Sophomore Carla Ugalde scored with an assist from Jassmin Cervantes. Goalie Kaylee Criswell allowed eight goals and had eight assists.

The Lady Tigers play their next game on Friday in Lampasas at 5 p.m.

TIGERS — The Rockdale Tigers boys soccer team lost 2-1 on the road to La Grange.

“It was quite a surprise, and I didn’t know what to expect,” Rodriguez said. “La Grange is known for being really good like Taylor. We went out with the mentality to put up a fight.”

Rodriguez said that the Tigers came alive late in the game after the Leopards scored once in the first half and made another early in the second.

“About ten minutes into the second, we took over.” Rodriguez said. “I think we put La Grange in a position where they had to battle it out, because we kept hacking, and they started to get a little messy with us.”

Chris Huff scored for the Tigers and Ty Mayberry allowed two goals and had 10 saves.

The Tigers play their next game on 7 p.m., Friday in Lampasas. Both Rockdale soccer teams will have a week until their next game after their Friday contests.

“At first, I was I didn’t like the idea of having that long of a break without a game,” Rodriguez said. “But now that we’ve gone through a full preseason, I like that we’ll get to rest up and get back to basic stuff we need to work on.”
