The undefeated-in-district- play (1-0) Rockdale Tigers traveled to New Caney to play in the New Caney Tournament this week.

The Tigers split games on Thursday. They won against West Fork High School out of Kingwood 59-49 and then lost against the Tarkington Longhorns out of Cleveland 67-56.

De’Andre Stephens was the leading scorer in the loss against Tarkington. He contributed 14 points. Bryson O’Bryant helped the Tigers with eight total points. Erik Sheppard had seven points for the night.

The last two games of the tournament were both losses for the Tigers. They lost to Rosenberg Terry 38-43 in overtime. They lost to Dayton 47-68. Both of these teams are 5A schools but the Tigers remained competitive.

“I am pleased with the growth this young team has made in such a short time,” said Head Basketball Coach Sean Lexima.

The Tigers went 1-3 overall in this tournament.

COMING UP— The Tigers were back home for a district game against McGregor on Jan. 2.

The explosive and quick-scoring Rockdale Lady Tigers won all four of their games in the Thorndale Tournament.

Rockdale won against the Bruceville-Eddy Eagles, who are 0-3 in district play, 62-60. Senior Ciara Miles had 24 points, seven rebounds, five steals and five assists. Junior Jazalle Dunn scored 13 points and had five rebounds. Sophomore Trinity Hurd put up 12 points and had three steals, three rebounds and five assists.

The Lady Tigers then took on the winless Axtell Longhorns and beat them 44-12. Senior Ciara Miles scored 23 points, had six rebounds and seven steals. Sophomore Trinity Hurd had 10 points and seven steals.

In their third game of the tournament Rockdale beat Iola 34-17. Top scorers in this game were Senior Ciara Miles who scored 13 points and Junior Jazalle Dunn had six points.

The Lady Tigers then faced Crawford and won this match up 38-33. Senior Ciara Miles had 19 points including five 3-pointers, seven rebounds, four assists. Sophomore Trinity Hurd had nine points, five steals and four assists.

COMING UP— The Lady Tigers are 2-1 in district play and took on McGregor at home in Tiger Gym on Jan. 2.
