The men’s basketball team went 1-3 in the recent Lago Vista Tournament. The Tigers are now 3-11 for the season. They have two road games against Navasota and Lexington before they regroup after Christmas to play in the New Caney Tournament in New Caney.
The recent win was against Austin Achieve and the losses last week were against Life School out of Oak Cliff, 60-34; Lago Vista, 61-41; and Salado, 61-37.
Against Austin Achieve, Alex Cooper led the team with 23 points, three rebounds, four assists and four steals. De’Andre Stephens had 17 points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals. Everyone on the Tiger roster scored during the game. High five Tigers!
In the loss to Life School Stephens led with 13 points, while Gates had six points and two rebounds.
In the game against Lago Vista, Stephens had 18 points, two rebounds, four steals and four deflections. Reaghan Jackson had 10 points, six rebounds, three steals and two deflections. Gates gave the Tigers three points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Finally against Salado, Cooper again led the team by scoring 13 points, along with seven rebounds and two assists. Jackson helped with five rebounds, one block and one assist.
COMING UP— District play will start Jan. 2 against McGregor here in Tiger Gym. Varsity tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
Lady Tigers
The Lady Tigers hot hand has turned a little colder recently. They are now 8-7 and have gone 1-4 recently. These women are well coached and have a lot of talent so anticipate them to be district-ready this week as they take on rival Cameron before facing Academy and Lexington before they break to celebrate Christmas.
The four losses came on the road to Jarrell which ended in a final score of 51-36. Then the Taylor Tournament was not kind to the Tigers. Please remember they were playing against 4A talent. They lost to Taylor, 63-33; Lampasas, 39-27; and Davenport, 46-27. The only win for these Lady Tigers this weekend was against non-varsity Taylor.
Head Lady Tiger Basketball Coach said, “Some good team play was happening. I am pleased with their effort and fight. They never give up.”
Congratulations to T’Niyah Miles was named to the All-Tournament team in the Taylor Tournament.
