The Rockdale Tigers basketball team traveled to Troy to take on the Trojans last week. This game ended in a loss for the Tigers, the final score was 59-36.
“Tiger Fight Never Dies” so our Tigers remained strong as they hosted the Eagles from Rogers on Friday night and beat them in a very exciting game. The final score of this game was 38-35.
The Tigers came out swinging in this home game and they never let up. With only 12 seconds left in a tie game Tiger David Penny with an assist by De’Andre Stephens hit a three-point shot that won the game. The gym was full of Tiger fans and they went nuts. What a fantastic win for the Tigers.
“This was a great team win,” said Head Basketball Coach Sean Lexima. “We are a scrappy team defensively, we got some key steals in the fourth quarter.”
Coach Lexima noted the leadership of Tiger Bryson O’Bryant and a “cast” of others that are the glue of this Tiger team.
Bryson O’Bryant had 15 points in this win and De’Andre Stephens had 11 points.
COMING UP— The Tigers are now 2-3 in district play. They were set to play against 3-2 Cameron at home on Tuesday. On Friday, the Tigers travel to Academy to take on the 2-2 Bumblebees. Tip off w ill be at 7:30 p.m.
Lady Tigers
The 4-2 Rockdale Lady Tigers went on the road last week to Troy and took on the Lady Trojans who are now 4-3 in district play. Rockdale won this match up with a final score of 45-40.
Sophomore Trinity Hurd hit a three-pointer at the end of the game to give Rockdale the win. Hurd had a total of seven points, two rebounds and three steals for the night. Steady Senior Ciara Miles had 25 points, six rebounds, six steals and three assists. Junior Tanisha McBride had a great night contributing 13 points, six rebounds and three steals.
The Lady Tigers then suffered a surprising loss at home against the Rogers Lady Eagles who only have two district wins for the year. The final of this loss was Rogers 39, Rockdale 34.
The Lady Tigers just could not get the momentum they needed to get this game in the win column. Rockdale got within three points with just over a minute left but they were unable to get past a stubborn Rogers’ team.
COMING UP— Next up for the team was a home game against the rival Yoe High School of Cameron on Tuesday Rockdale will then play a road game against Academy at 6:15 p.m. Friday.
