The undefeated Lorena Leopards blew into town early last week and it was a dog fight. Saying, “Tiger fight never dies” was an understatement in the Rockdale High School gym on Tuesday night.

The Blue and Gold ended up losing this slug fest 59-47 but there were times it looked like they might win. If you didn’t know how good Lorena was you would think the Tigers must be in first place because they played like a winning team.

Anyone that loves the Tigers was ready to carry Coach Lexima off the court on their shoulders regardless of who won for having his team so well prepared. They looked like district champions tonight. Way to play Tigers! Tiger Nation salutes you.

In the second quarter Lorena got ahead 23-15, but before the half Big Blue got within two points. The half time score was Lorena 29, Rockdale 24.

This was an exciting game that showed our Tigers can keep up with a talented team that is moving up to 4A next year and is beating everyone they play this year.

We do not want to give in already and be thinking about next year but we do have a young team that is in a process of what Head Tiger Hoops Coach Sean Lexima would say is a “growth season.”

On Friday night the Tigers played Troy in Tiger Gym and it was disappointing to lose 59-38. Tiger De’Andre Stephens had 11 points and David Penny contributed nine points.

COMING UP— The Tigers were to hit the road on Tuesday for a game against Rogers, before traveling to Cameron on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Rockdale will wrap up their regular season games at home on Feb. 13.

The Tigers are 5-25 overall and 2-9 in district play.

JV/FROSH— The Tiger freshmen won against Troy 39-23. Brayden Knoblock had 23 points and the JV lost 29-22.

Lady Tigers

The Lady Tigers had to play the undefeated Leopards on Tuesday. The final score was Lorena 49, Rockdale 26.

The game was no doubt about character and this team has it.

Head Lady Tiger Basketball Coach Danielle Froggatt said, “I am very pleased with the effort tonight against Lorena. We lost but we battled.”

Standout players were Ciara Miles who had 14 points and Trinity Hurd, who gave the Lady Tigers nine points.

Later in the week, the Lady Tigers hosted the Troy Trojans in front of a spirited Troy crowd and lost by one. Rockdale seemed to let this game slip away, as they were up 28-16 at the half. The final score was 46-45.

COMING UP— Rockdale was to have a road game on Tuesday against Rogers to finish up their regular season.

The Lady Tigers are now 17-15 overall for the season and 5-8 in district play, which puts them in sixth place in the district.
