The Rockdale Tigers won the inaugural Blue & Gold Cup Tournament last week. On a cold day the Tigers s tarted o ff b y b eating Cameron 3-0. Scoring for the Tigers was Daniel Castillo, Jesus Bocanegra and Angel Rivera. The Tigers with assists were Kevin Valdiva, Pedro Tenorio and Wilmer Sorto.
Rockdale’s next game was against Luling, the f inal score against the Eagles was Rockdale 5, Luling 0. Goals were made by Eduardo Rivera, Jose Orellana and Kevin Valdivia and Wilmer Sorto scored twice. Angel Rivera had two assists.
The Tigers faced Marlin in their third game. The hard playing Bulldogs lost to our Tigers 4-2. Wilmer Sorto scored two goals, Daniel Castillo and Jose Orellana both scored one goal. Daniel Rodriguez had an assist.
In the semi-final the Tigers faced the Jarrell Cougars. This game ended in a tie, 1-1 and the Tigers won in penalties.
Rockdale went up against Lago Vista in the final and won 2-0. Goals were made by Wilmer Sorto and Daniel Castillo.
Earlier in the week the Tigers played against Jarrell and they tied the Cougars 0-0.
COMING UP— These tournament champions were set to face a tough Madisonv ille Mustang team in Madisonville on Tuesday, before a home game against Academy Friday. Game time is 7 p.m.
Soccer is a winter sport and the weather has been cool, but this is a solid team that is fun to watch so come out and support Tiger fútbol.
Lady Tigers
The Lady Tigers fútbol team braved the cold temperatures and played in the Lady Yoe Soccer Tournament last week.
They won a game, tied a game, lost a game and were unable to play a game against Cameron because of failing to have a full roster.
The Lady Tigers beat Connally in penalty kicks, 2-1. They lost to Florence 1-0 and they tied Academy 0-0.
COMING UP— Rockdale was to face Hempstead at Tiger Field on Tuesday. The Lady Tigers will then host Mexia at 5 p.m. Friday.
