Friday night was soccer weather—it was about 42 degrees when the game started but the Rockdale Tigers were rested and ready. The frigid temperatures did not look to have any impact on them as they got a big win on their home field against Academy. The final was Rockdale 5, Academy 1.
Goals were made by Eduardo Rivera, he scored twice, Wilmer Sorto scored once and Angel Rivera scored twice. Two assists were made by Wilmer Sorto, one by Angel Rivera and one by Jose Tenorio.
“Expectations were that this would be a close game,” said Head Boys Soccer Coach Gilberto Rodriguez. “Academy won the Cameron Tournament recently. The first half was fantastic, we moved the ball up and down the field creating chances and taking shots.”
“I hope we stay motivated as we start district next week,” he added.
Earlier in the week the Tigers were to play Madisonville but that game was canceled.
COMING UP— On Tuesday, district play started at Caldwell. The Tigers will then host the Taylor Ducks at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Lady Tigers
The Lady Tigers had a rough night in the very cold temperatures of Tiger Stadium on Friday. They faced the Black Cats of Mexia and lost 2-0.
Earlier in the week they had a home game against Hempstead and the game ended tied
0-0.
COMING UP— The Lady Tigers are now 2-6-3 for the season and started district play Tuesday on the road against the Caldwell Hornets. Rockdale will then face the Taylor Ducks at home at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Taylor is 4-5 on the year.
Hard charging Tiger Angel Rivera moves the ball towards the goal Friday against the Academy Bumblebees. The Tigers won 5-1.
