Rockdale High School boys golf team will make their 12th consecutive trip to the regional tournament on April 22-23 at the Bren-ham Country Club.
This will be the third time Rockdale plays in Brenham this season and the second two-day tournament there for Brady Nelson, Ross Loth, Brayden Burns, Doss Hasselbach and Jake Hasselbach.
RHS is up against Milam County rival Cameron and fourteen other schools. (See graphic on this page for a listing of schools.)
Rockdale has competed against seven of the 15 high school teams they will be facing. They have gone head-to-head with Pollok Central, the past three seasons at regionals.
“Cameron will be tough,” head coach Ethan Noel told the Reporter last week. “But I think Pollok Central will be the team to beat.”
Last season, the Tigers outshot the Bulldogs by 14 strokes on the second day of the regional tournament to beat them by eight and take home the title. In 2017, Rockdale beat them by 24 strokes in the regional tournament.
Rockdale has also faced Boling and Central Heights, who they beat the first time they played in Brenham this season in February. The Tigers also beat East Bernard the last time they played in Bren-ham in March.
The Tigers are scheduled to start their first hole at 8:15 a.m. and each team member will tee off every nine minutes until the last player goes at 8:51.
LADY TIGERS— Junior Whitley Boyd and Senior Gracey Burns will compete as medalists at the girls regional tournament on April 24-25 in Brenham.
Boyd qualified for the tournament after placing third at the District 19-3A tournament with a score of 99-99-198 and Burns qualified as an alternate shooting 115-121-236.
In last year’s regional tournament, Boyd shot 100 on the first day and 95 on the second for a 195 total.
Boyd is scheduled to tee off at 9 a.m., and Burns will go at 9:27 a.m.
