The Rockdale Junior High boy’s cross country team placed first at the Caldwell meet on Saturday, Sept. 15, and had many racers place in the top 25 of their respective divisions.
“We took home several individual medals against some very large schools,” said Coach Cheryl Darby.
Two of their runners placed in the top ten. Joel Scott placed second with a time of 12:02, and Jesus Bocanegra was eighth, 12:40. The Tigers had three other finishers in the top 25: 14. Cristo Hernandez 13:00; 18. Pyrce Delarosa 13:18; and 22.Cruz San Migel 13:35.
Other Rockdale members of the first place team were: Yovanney Delgadillo, Jose Tenorio, Lorenzo Rivera, Diego Garza, Chris Perez, Cohen O’Dell, Dominique Clark, Mason Willard, and Coylton Malkey.
In the junior high girl’s race, Ciara Miles placed sixth with a time of 14:50 and 15. Avery Hendrix 15:31.
RHS–The varsity Lady Tigers had three runners place in the top 25 in Caldwell. They were: 11. Ivanna Luna 12:57; 21. Marian Costilla 13:43; and
22. Cady Barcak 13:47.
In the junior varsity girl’s division was 23. Leigh Holland 15:34.
“The kids rose to the challenge.” Said Darby. “We’re looking forward to the next week.”
The Rockdale cross country teams run next at the McGregor Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 22. The Tigers have one more meet before they compete at the district meet in Cameron on Monday, Oct. 8.
