All three Rockdale Junior High football teams emerged as victorious in their respective games against Robinson in their season opener at Tiger Stadium this past Thursday night.
The eighth grade “A” got their second win of the season with a 38-8 blowout over the Rockets.
Robinson led 8-6 at the end of the first quarter, but three Blaydn Barcak touchdown passes to Kemar Spencer, Mason Willard and Cruz San Migel put RJH ahead 24-8 at halftime.
Barcak threw another TD pass to Gerren Carter in the third and Dominic Clark also scored on a 20-yard run to make the final score 38-8.
According to coach Eric Willard, defensive standouts were Chad David, Tim Tedford and Carter. Standouts on offense were Isaiah Sauls, Noah Pastrano, Zach Matthews and Madden Montelongo.
8B/7B–The combined team came back to beat the Rockets 14-8 for their first win of the season.
The Tigers were down 8-0 in the first but were boosted by a Kayden Land 62-yard TD run in the second. Bryson Huff ran in the two-point conversion to make the game tied at halftime.
Huff helped win the game for RJH in the fourth when he forced a fumble that was picked up by Cooper Huff. Bryson then threw the game-winning pass to Evan Miller for a 12-yard touchdown.
Offensive standouts were D’anthony Lockett, Francisco Vasquez and Isaac Juarez. Standouts on defense were Cooper Huff and Dustin Markert.
7A–The seventh grade team won 32-8 over Robinson led by four touchdowns from Timothy Grice.
The Tigers were up early with two of Grice’s touchdowns in the first to take a 14-0 lead.
In the second, Rockdale’s defense caused two fumbles. The first was made by Zakobe Anderson and recovered by De’rion Bell. A.J Sandoval forced another after that for Ezequiel Castro to pick up.
Grice scored again on an eight-yard TD.
His final touchdown came in the fourth on a 10-yard run in the fourth. Castro also scored on a seven-yard run later in the quarter.
Radyn Hamilton also made an interception to end the game.
Offensive standouts were Grice, Luis Lepe and Daniel Castillo. Defensive standouts were Sandoval and Anderson.
The RJH football teams play their final non-district games this Thursday in Bur-net.
The combined game starts at 5 p.m. Both games after will follow the conclusion of the game prior.
JV2–Rockdale’s JV2 lost 20-6 in Dripping Springs on Thursday.
Offensive standouts were Amarion Butler, Davin Schriver, Dashaun McBride and Ryan Cranford. Defensive standouts were Fernando Ramirez, Austin Goodman, Ivan Bonner, Fernando Valdivia and Colton Wallace.
JV2 has this Thursday off, but JV1 hosts Mason’s JV on Thursday at Tiger Stadium, a team that will make an 145-mile journey for the 5 p.m. kickoff.
