FRESHMAN—RHS freshmen boys’ basketball team ended their season with a 9-2 district record after Friday’s 53-44 defeat of Cameron.

Because Lexington does not have a freshmen team coaches mixed in some freshman players in Tuesday’s varsity and junior varsity games.

“I love the unity of that group. They enjoy each other and play for each other,” said Coach Marcus McNeil. “If we can keep that up and mix them in with some of our older guys, then I’m hopeful for the future.”

“I have most of them in class and what I really enjoy about those kids is that they work hard in the classroom,” said McNeil, who also has some athletes in his Algebra I classes. “I don’t have to beg them to do their schoolwork and they’re great students and that transfers over to the court.

Coach Ethan Noel agreed, “They’ve been a fun group to coach and they’re a close knit group that really enjoys playing together. We coaches are really focused on how we want to play as a program and want to ingrain that in them. They play great defense and put up great effort, which is something you want to start with.”
