The Rockdale junior varsity defeated the Hyde Park Panthers 24-6 Thursday in Austin.
The Tigers got a lot on the board fast with two Bryce Miller touchdown runs in the first quarter. The first was for 10 yards, and the second was for 12. Both two-point conversions were successful with the first by Miller, and the second by Chase May-field. At the end of the first quarter the Tigers led 16-0.
The Tigers defense held the Panthers to zero in the second quarter when May-field forced a fumble that was recovered by Yahir Buentello.
In the third quarter, a second fumble was caused by the Tiger defense that Mayfield recovered. Hyde Park got the ball back before the end of the quarter and scored on 60-yard touchdown pass, but missed the two-point conversion.
Leading 18-6 going into the fourth quarter, Tucker Prestridge scored on an eight-yard run. Mayfield completed the two-point conversion, putting the Tigers up 24-6.
Rockdale made one more defensive stop in the fourth quarter with an interception by Hagen Land.
According to coach David Monroe, the offensive standouts were Bryce Miller, Tucker Prestridge, and Aaron Avila. The defensive standouts were Chase Mayfield, Hagen Land and Kaden Kruse.
The Tigers have an open week and play their next game against the Manor New Tech Titans on Thursday, Oct. 3 in Manor.
