The RHS JV Tigers were crowned district champions after they defeated the Lorena JV Leopards 43-27.

The Tigers got on the board first as quarterback Blaydn Barcak connected with Gerren Marrero on a 76-yard touchdown pass. The Tigers led 8-0 after one quarter.

In the second quarter, Barcak dialed-up a 20-yard touchdown pass to Wyatt Windham. Riley Spears snagged the catch for the two-point conversion. Later in the quarter, the connection of Barcak and Windham struck again as they connected on a 15-yard touchdown pass. The two-point conversion was no good. The Tigers led 22-13 at the half.

Defense prevailed in the third quarter as neither team recorded any points.

In the fourth quarter, the Tiger defense made their presence felt with Dominique Clark returning a fumble for a touchdown.

A few drives later, Kemar Spencer found the end zone on a 13-yard run. The final touchdown of the evening came as Windham returned an interception for a 60-yard touchdown.

Offensive standouts included Spencer, Clark, Jose Aboytes, Isaiah Sauls, Landon Pounders, Marrero and Mason Willard. Defensive standouts included Alex Ebba, Sauls, Luke Dafler, Windham, Marrero and Edward Powell.

“The kids made good strides and improvement through out the season,” RHS JV Coach Bart Gibbs said.

“The freshmen combining with the JV Blue was a good transition for both groups. We are very proud of the sub varsity team and see a bright future ahead.”

The JV team finished the season with a record of 5-3-2 overall and 5-1 in district play.
