RHS got their second District 19-3 volleyball win on Friday night over Academy in a tiebreaker 18-25, 25-16, 19-25, 25-14, 15-9.

In their first win over the Lady Bees since 2017, Anna Harmon led Rockdale at the net with 11 kills. Freshmen Julie Bartsch was also instrumental in the front with 10 kills, Payton Miller led the team on defense with 22 digs and Yolianna Castillo was a big help to Harmon and Bartsch with 35 assists. Castillo had been sick as recently as Thursday evening before playing in one of her best statistical performances.

The Academy match was game three of a six-game road stretch.

MCGREGOR–The Lady Tigers were unable to outlast McGregor in another tiebreaker falling 25-21, 22-25, 25-20, 12-25, 5-15 on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

According to assistant coach Brian Thomas, the Lady Bulldogs were scrappy and were able to keep up long rallies with RHS. Bartsch led the team in kills.

THIS WEEK–Rock-dale played Troy, Texas Girls Coaches Association’s fifth-ranked team in Class 3A after press time on Tuesday evening.

The Lady Tigers’ week doesn’t get easier as they go to Rogers on Friday to conclude the first half of district play. The Lady Eagles are 9-1 with their only loss coming from Troy last week.

The match is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.

MILANO VS. THORN-DALE– The Thorndale Lady Bulldogs remain undefeated in District 25-2A after taking down Milam County neighbor Milano 25-11, 26-24, 25-15 in their first meeting of the season.

THS was led by Landri Leschber who had nine kills, eight assists. Other notable performances from Thorn-dale were Madi Smith with nine kills and Kyndal Robinson who had five kills, 11 assists, four digs, one block and aced three of her serves.

For the Lady Eagles, Abby Miller led the team with eight kills. McKenna Robertson was also instrumental with four kills, six digs and three blocks.

Both teams play again on Tuesday, Oct. 22, in Milano

MILANO-Earlier in the week, the Lady Eagles fell 25-23, 24-26, 20-25, 19-25 to Granger, a team that has been ranked among the top 25 schools by the Texas Girls Coaches Association for most of the season.

Robertson had a season-high of 26 kills in addition to 10 digs. Danni Shaw had 25 assists and Miller also led at the net with 11 kills.

MHS is 3-3 in district with losses to the Lady Lions, Thorndale and Thrall.

They played Bartlett Tuesday after press time and host Holland on Saturday. Milano swept Holland in on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 25-18, 25-11, 25-17.

First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.

THORNDALE– THS swept Buckholts 25-10, 25-7, 25-11 Tuesday, Sept. 24.

Leschber and Smith were a force in the front with 13 and 11 kills.

The Lady Bulldogs wrapped up the first half of district Tuesday evening in Mumford after press time. They play next on Friday against Granger. Thorndale shutout the Lady Lions 25-15, 25-14, 25-17 in their district opener on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the THS Gymnasium.
