Both Rockdale High School soccer teams struggled when they faced Lorena on the road this past Tuesday.

First, a young Lady Tiger team fell 11-0 to a Lady Leopard squad that made it to the regional finals last season.

LHS scored six of their goals in the first half and added five more in the final forty minutes.

Later, the Tigers were unable to overcome two Lorena goals in the first half to receive their first loss of the season, 2-0.

TIGERS–The Tigers get back to kicking after Christmas when the Blue-and-Gold head up to University High School in Waco for a double-header.

The opponents will be announced on the Reporter Facebook page later this week.

First match is scheduled for 10:15 a.m.

Rockdale returns to Tiger Stadium on Friday, Jan. 3, when they host Robinson.

The Rockets are coming off a third-place finish in 2019 in a highly competitive district.

They also beat out Conally and Lorena for playoff spots in District 23-4A, the two schools Rockdale has faced so far this season.

Gametime is scheduled for 1 p.m.

EARLIER IN THE SEASON–RHS defeated Conally in their season opener 3-2 on Friday, Dec. 13.

Chris Olvera scored two goals and German Mata had one in a match the Tigers led in early.

The game became a nail-biter in the final 15 minutes when the Cadets scored two quick goals in the last 15 minutes of play, but the Tigers held on to get their first win of the season.

LADY TIGERS–Like the boys, the Lady Tigers will also play after Christmas.

They will play the La Vega Lady Pirates, a 2019 playoff squad that fell to Palestine in the opening round, on Monday, Dec. 30.

Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Rockdale returns to Tiger Stadium on Friday as well, facing Robinson.

The Lady Rockets ended their 2019 season short of the playoffs going 6-6 in a district that included Waco area schools La Vega, Conally and an undefeated Lorena.

Gametime with Robinson is scheduled for 11 a.m.

EARLIER IN THE SEASON–In Rockdale’s season opener, they fell 4-0 to Conally.

With a roster mainly made up of girls who had never played in an actual soccer game before, coach Gilberto Rodriguez was impressed.

“In the first half, we were completely lost,” he said. “In the second half, they were fantastic.”

RHS allowed three of their four goals in that first 40 minutes of play.
