Due to inclement weather, the Rockdale Tigers began their football season on the floor of the RJH Gymnasium.
The guys ended up returning to Tiger Stadium Tuesday morning to better weather where they performed drills and scrimmaged to get the team back into gear.
With the graduation of Cam’Ron Valdez, Jace Robinson and Kesean Raven, the Blue-and-Gold will have many new faces at the forefront this season with sophomores like Kemar Spencer, Blaydn Barcak and Cruz San Migel.
Kobe Mitchell, coming into his fourth season of varsity football, also returns after leading RHS from behind the center in 2020 when he took over for Robinson after a week one injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the season.
THIS WEEK—T h e Tigers will have varsity media day on Saturday at 10:15 a.m., and Meet the Tigers on Monday at 7:30 p.m., where a live auction will be held to help raise money for the Rockdale Tiger Athletic Boosters.
NEXT WEEK—Rockdale hits the road on Friday, Aug. 13, to face Jarrell in their first scrimmage of the season.
The Cougars, who used to be in District 10-3A with the Big Blue, are in their second season of playing Class 4A football and are coming off a season where they went 1-9.
However, JHS does has 15 starters returning and are led by running back D.J. Warren who rushed for 1,206 yards and crossed the end zone 12 times during 2020. They also have emphasis on their passing game with quarterback Andrew Knebel.
The junior varsity starts playing at 5:30 p.m., with the varsity starting right after.
