A battle of undefeated teams will commence on Friday as the Rockdale Tigers will travel to Lexington to face a physical and talented Eagles squad.
“It’s (Lexington’s) always a fun game,” RHS Head Coach Jacob Campsey said. “Those guys play football the right way. They’re physical, tough and they have some athleticism. It’s always a great game and battle. Both communities take a lot of pride in this game, so it should be a good one.”
ROCKDALE—R H S heads into this week’s contest with tons of momentum after dismantling their rival Taylor Ducks 55-21. The offense clicked on all cylinders last week running and passing the football well. Quarterback Kobe Mitchell showed that the spotlight wasn’t a distraction for him garnering 344 total yards and six touchdowns in his first career start. The playmaking of Cam’ron Valdez, Kesean Raven and Anthony Dansby put the game out of reach with 41 points tallied in the first half alone.
The Tiger defense had a great showing as they held the Taylor Ducks to zero points in the first half. The secondary for the Tigers exercised outstanding execution as they held Taylor Quarterback Bryson Bass to zero passing yards in the game.
Players to watch: RHS wide receiver Dansby is looking to keep the momentum going after posting a career high 159 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Wide receiver Raven recorded seven catches for 113 yards, 24 rushing yards and three total touchdowns for a huge game. Running back Valdez continued to impress accumulating 88 yards on only eight carries and scoring one touchdown.
LEXINGTON—The Lexington Eagles come into Friday’s contest ranked No. 8 in the texasfootball.com 3A Division II rankings. The Eagles feel confident after crushing the Thrall Tigers 35-6 last week.
The Eagles are carried by their running game as their offense has averaged 303 rushing yards in their first two games.
The defense has been stout allowing only 10 points per game this season. The defensive line placed constant pressure on Thrall quarterback Colton Hill forcing him to get rid of the ball fast.
Players to watch: Junior Jarred Kerr is a dynamic allaround player for the Eagles. Last week against Thrall, he recorded a crazy stat line of 240 rushing yards and four touchdowns on only 11 carries. Kerr is emerging in the recruiting world as he holds offers from big time colleges such as Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Notre Dame, Texas A&M and others. Senior wide receiver Jeh Jackson showed his ability to run great routes after snagging four catches for 30 yards against Thrall.
