Six Rockdale sprinters qualified for state and Junior Olympics track meets in multiple events, while breaking personal records.

Eight and under runners, Chloe Miles, Jordyn Huff, Jordyn Brown, Ki’ara-Ann Jones, Jaelah Green and 12 and under division runner, Ciara Miles all of the 100 Miles and Running Club in Rockdale are going to compete in the 2018 Texas Amateur Athlete Federation (TAAF) State Track and Field Meet at College Station High School, 6 p.m., Thursday, July 26 and Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Junior Olympics, Sunday, July 29 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.

Teammate Canaan Miles, competed in the eight and under division as a six-year-old and placed thirteenth in the 100-meter run with a 16.81 second time, sixteenth in the 50-yard dash at 8.7 seconds, and eighth in the 200-meter run in 37.71 seconds. All of Canaan’s times were personal best records.

“They all worked hard, and everybody involved improved noticeably from the year before,” said Charles Miles, coach of 100 Miles club.

Miles coaches a summer track team that is part of a 17-region group of run clubs. The club is part of region five that includes teams from Bryan, College Station, Harker Heights, Killeen, Temple and Waco

In early July, seven local sprinters competed in AAU Region 19 Qualifier in Converse and the TAAF Regional Track and Field Meet in Waco.

The girls 4 x 100-meter relay team of Chloe Miles, Huff, Brown and Jones placed fourth in the eight and under division with a time of 1:12:00 minute. Prior to the race, Brown had suffered an injury, in a softball tournament, which continued to bother her while running at the qualifier. Before the regional meet in Waco, Coach Miles decided to substitute Jaelah Green to run the third-leg in her place. The team placed third with an improved time of 1:09:22.

Jones qualified for the Junior Olympics in the 200-meter run. Chloe Miles and Jones also went head-to-head in the 50-yard dash at the regional meet. Chloe Miles finished fourth with an 8.77 seconds and Jones placed fifth with 8.78 time, a personal record for her.

Ciara Miles placed ninth in the 12 and under 400-meter run in Converse, and won the same race in Waco the following week. She also placed eleventh in the 200-meter and fifth in the 100-meter races.
